DRAKE BROTHERS OUSTING UPHELD BY U.S. COURT

July 25, 1934

(Chicago Tribune) - Federal Judge James H. Wilkerson yesterday upheld the action of Charles Y. Williamson, receiver for the Drake Hotel, in ousting John B. and Tracy C. Drake and their families from the hotel last year.  The Drakes, who had been living rent free in the hotel on the basis of a contract with the Whitestone Management Company, operators of the hotel, at first opposed the ouster and then voluntarily moved out on July 19, 1933.

The agreement with the management company had been signed on July 15, 1932 and under its terms, the Drake brothers were given $15,000 a year and free quarters, service and food.  Judge Wilkerson held that the Drakes would not have to pay the rent from the time of the agreement until they vacated their suites.
