James M. McGinn, Phillips Martin Real Estate
James M. McGinn formed the Phillips Martin Partnership with Stanley P. Brashears in 1983. They then established Phillips Martin Management, Inc. and Phillips Martin Real Estate, Inc. for which Mr. McGinn has served as President since 1989. The Phillips Martin entities are jointly owned by McGinn and Brashears for the purpose of acquiring, managing, developing or selling commercial and residential properties whether purchased by Phillips Martin or a third party. In the last 30 years, the Phillips Martin entities have been responsible for Real Estate transactions totaling more than $900 million.
Mr. McGinn was the Treasurer and a Director of the National Realty and Investment Company (NRIC) from 1991 to 2013. National Realty and Investment Company maintained interests in various commercial properties including the Drake Hotel Chicago since 1937. He was also a Director and Treasurer of Iroquois Club, Inc. which developed, owned and managed a 385,000 square foot, 272 unit residentail building located on 16 acres in Naperville, Illinois which sold in 2015 for 38 million dollars. Mr. McGinn served as a General Partner of Superior 160, LLC until the sale of the 20,000 S. F. building to Chicago’s Gino’s East in July 2012.
Mr. McGinn is currently a General Partner of BB&A Venture owner of the Drake Hotel. He received a Masters in Business Administration (M.B.A) from Loyola University of Chicago and received a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Finance (emphasis in real estate) from Northern Illinois University. Mr. McGinn is a licensed real estate broker in the State of Illinois.
Stanley P. Brashears, Phillips Martin Managment, Inc.
Mr. Brashears is a co-owner and officer of Phillips Martin Real Estate, Inc. and President of Phillips Martin Management, Inc. He founded Phillips Martin Partnership with James McGinn in 1983 to develop two multi-story residential communities consisting of 272 units in Naperville and 82 units in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Additionally, Phillips Martin developed 162 East Superior in Chicago and has secured debt and equity to acquire various properties through limited liability corporations.
Mr. Brashears was elected as a General Partner of BB&A Venture after acting as President and Secretary of National Realty and Investment Company from 1991 to 2013. He first accepted a nomination to National Realty’s Board of Directors in 1985. National Realty maintained interests in various agricultural and commercial properties including the Drake Hotel Chicago which National Realty owned and operated for over 40 years until executing an unsubordinated, reversionary ground lease in 1979. As he did prior to lease termination, Mr. Brashears continues to act as Trustee and General Partner of BB&A Venture, owner of the Drake Hotel in Chicago.
After attending Cornell University, Brashears left the hotel business to participate in the development, lease up and management of the Drake Oak Brook Office Plaza in 1979. He later represented National Realty’s Joint Venture Interest with Traveler’s Insurance Company and sold the 250,000 Sq. Ft. office building to the Illinois Municipal Worker’s Pension Fund for $40 Million in 1990. Mr. Brashears is the Managing Broker of Phillips Martin Real Estate and is a licensed Real Estate Broker in the state of Montana.
